A United Airlines flight originating from San Francisco and bound for Boston was rerouted to Denver due to concerns regarding the plane’s wing. A passenger onboard recorded footage showing what appeared to be an issue with the wing, expressing apprehension about the situation.
Kevin Clarke, the passenger who captured the incident on video, remarked, “Just about to land in Denver with the wing coming apart on the plane,” conveying his eagerness for the flight to conclude. The Boeing 757-200, carrying 165 passengers, safely landed in Denver following the diversion, with the wing problem reportedly becoming noticeable post-takeoff from San Francisco.
United Airlines confirmed the diversion, attributing it to an issue with the slat on the wing and assuring that the flight landed safely. Subsequently, arrangements were made for another aircraft to transport passengers to Boston.
Another passenger, identified as octopus_hug on Reddit, shared a photo of the wing during the flight, expressing concern about abnormal noise and the wing’s appearance. The passenger notified the flight crew, sharing their relief at the prospect of landing safely.
Following the diversion, passengers were accommodated on an alternate flight and arrived in Boston early the next morning.
The incident adds to recent scrutiny faced by Boeing, which includes a January incident involving a door panel detachment on a 737 Max 9 during an Alaska Airlines flight. In response, the FAA pledged to enhance monitoring of aircraft manufacturing and ensure accountability for safety violations within Boeing’s operations.
