  1. E1 Series Debut: The UIM E1 World Electric Powerboat Series launches in 2023, featuring up to 12 teams racing hydrofoil-based electric boats at speeds of 50 knots (93 km/h).
  2. Mercury Racing Partnership: As the official Propulsion and Propeller Partner, Mercury Racing is developing advanced electric powertrains for the RaceBird powerboats, driving innovation in sustainable marine technology.
  3. Industry Advancement: The adoption of electric propulsion in powerboat racing is set to influence broader marine engineering, enhancing performance and sustainability for both competitive and recreational boating.

The emergence of electric powertrains in competitive powerboat racing is taking a major step forward with the E1 Series, a championship designed to promote sustainable watercraft. The series aims to reduce environmental impact on oceans, rivers, and lakes while delivering high-performance racing. By embracing cutting-edge electric propulsion technology, E1 is set to redefine the future of marine motorsports.

Mercury Racing, a leader in high-performance propulsion systems for nearly 50 years, has partnered with E1 as its official Propulsion and Propeller Partner. The company is developing an advanced electric powertrain for hydrofoil-based RaceBird powerboats. With this collaboration, Mercury Racing is applying its expertise in propulsion innovation to the growing demand for sustainable solutions in marine racing.

The UIM E1 World Electric Powerboat Series will feature up to 12 teams competing in global race locations on tight, technical circuits. RaceBird powerboats, designed by SeaBird Technologies and Victory Marine, will reach speeds nearing 50 knots (93 km/h or 58 mph). The inaugural season is set to launch in 2023, introducing an entirely new dimension of speed and strategy to the sport.

As the marine industry embraces electric propulsion, companies are increasingly focused on developing high-performance, sustainable alternatives to traditional engines. Mercury Racing’s involvement in E1 aligns with its mission to push technological boundaries while ensuring that innovation remains at the forefront of the industry. Through strategic partnerships, engineers have the opportunity to experiment with new concepts and refine practical applications.

The advancements driven by electric powerboat racing extend beyond competition, influencing the broader marine sector. By harnessing innovation from racing technology, manufacturers aim to enhance the on-water experience for all users, from professional racers to recreational boaters. The integration of electric propulsion marks a transformative era for powerboat racing and the future of marine engineering.
