AI is moving beyond simply answering questions, and classrooms could be one of the biggest places to feel that change. OpenAI is introducing three new plugins for ChatGPT Work and Codex that are designed to help students and educators plan, learn and create using the documents, course materials and approved tools they already use.

For students, the College Student plugin turns existing study material into guided learning experiences, including tutoring, quizzes, flashcards, study guides and interactive explanations. The College Educator plugin takes a similar approach for faculty, helping with syllabi, course design, multimedia assessments, interactive websites and learning management systems while allowing instructors to work across teaching and research tasks.

The K–12 Educator plugin is focused on classroom preparation, allowing teachers to create differentiated resources, interactive visuals and materials aligned with academic standards. OpenAI says the new tools are also intended to address a growing gap between what AI can do and how effectively students use it. The company says young adults aged 18 to 24 are among ChatGPT’s strongest mainstream users, yet advanced students still use only a fraction of the capabilities available to power users. Structured access through education-focused environments could help students develop stronger skills in analysis, calculation and learning.

The plugins are being made available through ChatGPT Edu and ChatGPT for Teachers district deployments, adding another layer to OpenAI’s growing push into education.
