The race to build AI that can do more than answer questions has just taken another dramatic turn. Cognition AI, the company behind autonomous coding agents, has raised $2 billion in fresh funding, pushing its valuation to $48 billion and signalling just how aggressively investors are betting on AI that can perform real-world work.
• Cognition AI raised $2 billion in Series E funding
• The company is now valued at $48 billion
• Investors are pouring money into AI automation
The Series E round was led by new investors Andreessen Horowitz and Accel, with existing backers Founders Fund, General Catalyst and Avenir also participating. The funding comes only months after Cognition raised $1 billion, highlighting the extraordinary speed at which money is flowing into the AI sector.
• Andreessen Horowitz and Accel led the latest round
• Existing investors also backed the company
• Cognition previously raised $1 billion in May
Cognition’s valuation has nearly doubled from $26 billion in May to $48 billion. The company also says its annualised revenue has surged from $492 million to nearly $900 million since its previous funding round, giving investors another reason to believe demand for AI-powered software development is accelerating.
• Valuation jumped from $26 billion to $48 billion
• Annualised revenue is approaching $900 million
• Growth has accelerated sharply since May
At the centre of Cognition’s business are autonomous software-engineering agents designed to handle much of the coding process themselves. The technology can plan projects, write code, test it and deploy software with limited human involvement, moving AI further into tasks traditionally performed by engineering teams.
• AI agents can plan and write software
• Systems can test and deploy code
• Human involvement can be reduced
The enormous funding round raises a bigger question about where the AI boom is heading. Investors are increasingly backing companies that promise to automate entire workflows rather than simply provide another chatbot, and Cognition’s rapid growth suggests the market sees autonomous AI workers as one of the industry’s biggest opportunities.
• AI investment is shifting toward automation
• Autonomous agents are attracting major funding
