Meta is reportedly set to release a more advanced version of its Ray-Ban smart glasses, codenamed Hypernova, by the end of 2025. This new iteration will introduce a built-in screen and advanced gesture controls, marking a significant leap forward in Meta’s wearable tech ambitions. Unlike its predecessors, Hypernova will allow users to run apps and view images directly in the right lens’ lower-right corner, visible primarily when glancing downward.
The glasses will feature a home screen interface reminiscent of Meta Quest’s UI, with icons arranged horizontally. Control is expected through capacitive touch along the frame’s sides and through hand gestures, suggesting a focus on minimal physical interaction. Hypernova will also upgrade the onboard camera, building on Meta’s push toward integrating AI chat features into everyday wearables.
With a projected price tag between $1,300 and $1,400, Hypernova will be significantly more expensive than the $299 Ray-Ban Meta glasses currently on the market. The premium pricing is attributed not only to the integrated display and camera enhancements but also the inclusion of Meta’s neural wristband controller, codenamed Ceres, which enables gesture-based input.
While Meta continues to develop its high-end augmented reality Orion glasses, Hypernova is aimed at a growing mid-tier market of smart eyewear enthusiasts. Competing products in this category—such as the CES-highlighted Rokid Glasses—offer more basic AR features, like green text displays. Hypernova will distinguish itself with its blend of visual interface, camera improvements, and AI functionality.
