Spotify is making a move into the gaming arena through a new collaboration with EA Sports, introducing a feature that allows players to stream music directly during gameplay. This marks a significant development for the streaming giant as it explores interactive environments beyond traditional listening platforms.
The new feature is being piloted in EA Sports FC 25 and is currently limited to users on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Gamers in Australia and Saudi Arabia who have Spotify Premium subscriptions can access their playlists, podcasts, and audiobooks within the game. A dedicated Spotify tab will now appear in the game’s main menu for eligible users.
While this feature does not allow seamless, in-action track switching, players can pause the game or access the setup menu to select or skip tracks. Once a song is playing, a small icon will be displayed on the screen, allowing gamers to stay aware of what’s playing without disrupting the overall experience too much.
Players also have the option to disable the default in-game soundtrack entirely, opting instead to personalize their sessions with Spotify content. However, not all tracks may be accessible, with Spotify noting some limitations on available music.
This pilot signals a broader trend of integrating entertainment services into gaming experiences, and if successful, could pave the way for expanded partnerships and availability in more regions and platforms. As the lines between music, media, and gaming continue to blur, Spotify is positioning itself at the forefront of immersive, user-driven entertainment.
