What if your AI assistant could keep working after you put your phone down, remember the details of your life and even take care of tasks you never got around to finishing? Meta is moving toward that future with Muse, a personal AI agent designed to do more than simply answer questions.

• Meta has introduced Muse as a personal AI agent
• It can take action instead of only giving advice
• Muse is designed for everyday users without technical skills

Muse works through the Muse app and WhatsApp, allowing people to communicate with it much like they would with another person. Powered by Meta’s Muse Spark model, it can handle tasks such as sending emails, booking travel, filling in online forms and developing plans around larger personal goals. It can continue working in the background and return when something changes or human approval is needed.

• Muse works through familiar messaging-style interactions
• It can complete tasks across the internet
• Longer tasks can continue after the app is closed

The system is also designed to remember useful details, potentially changing how people interact with personal AI. Muse could turn a recipe saved on Instagram into a grocery list, suggest food for a dinner party or remember dietary requirements when helping organise an event. For purchases, Meta says Muse can use Stripe’s Link service with a one-time-use card designed to keep real payment details hidden.

• Muse can remember personal preferences and past details
• It can connect information across tasks
• Secure payment options are being built into the experience

Privacy is a major part of Meta’s pitch. Muse operates inside a dedicated cloud-based virtual machine, while a separate security system called Sentinel controls what reaches the internet. Credentials are stored securely so Muse cannot see passwords or payment details, while users can approve sensitive actions, review an audit trail and control which services the agent can access.

• Muse operates inside a dedicated secure environment
• Users control connected services and sensitive actions
• Meta says conversations are kept away from its advertising systems

Meta plans to introduce an even more private Confidential VM later this year, designed to encrypt the entire virtual machine with a key controlled only by the user. Muse is initially rolling out in the US on iOS, Android and the web, with support for AI glasses coming later. The bigger ambition is clear: Meta wants AI to move from something people ask questions to something that actively gets things done.

• Confidential VM aims to give users exclusive control of encryption
• Muse is initially launching in the US
• AI glasses support is planned for the future
